Lawsuit Update: March 2009
As you all know, on November 18, 2008, faced with
the specter of a Board that continues to reject parity and an Association of
Alumni executive committee that has rendered itself powerless by giving up
its own lawsuit, a representative group of individual alumni
filed suit in the
Grafton County Superior Court to enforce the
1891 agreement, to
restore parity, and to ensure the preservation of the governance model that
has placed the College in the forefront of American educational
institutions.
On February 2, 2009, the trustees
responded. Now
we wait for a trial date to be set or wiser heads to prevail.
See these filings on the Hanover Institute’s website.
The Hanover Institute will commit its strength and resources to insuring
that this disgraceful self-dealing by the Dartmouth College board of
trustees will not stand. We believe that broad alumni involvement is good
for Dartmouth, and that for the greater good of her future we must restore
their full franchise in charting her course. This is our main focus, the
main battle on which we will spend our resources.
